P.K. Shifana is an Indian student activist. She is also chairperson of University of Calicut[2][3] and Student Union leader associated with the Muslim Students Federation (I. U. M. L.), which is the student wing of the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) in Kerala, India.
Personal life and education
Shifana was born in Pallikkal, Kondotty, Malappuram, Kerala, India. She is the daughter of Mujeeb Rahman PK. She is a student at Kodungallur Kunjikuttan Thampuran Memorial (KKTM) Government College in Thrissur, where she is pursuing a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in History. This college is affiliated with Calicut University. She has also served as a University Union Councillor (UUC). She is an executive member of Haritha, the women's wing of the MSF.[1][4] She previously served as a University Union Councillor (UUC). Political career
P.K. Shifana made history in 2025 by becoming the first woman chairperson[1][5] from the MSF to win the University of Calicut students' union chair. She is a fifth-semester History undergraduate at Kodungallur Kunjikuttan Thampuran Memorial (KKTM) Government College in Thrissur. She hails from Kondotty in Malappuram and became active in politics from her first day in college in 2023.[1]

Court intervenes in Shifna's candidacy
In a development pertaining to the University of Calicut Union Election, the Kerala High Court intervened to address concerns regarding the safety and fairness of the electoral process. P.K. Shifana, a candidate for the chairperson position, filed a petition alleging that she and other candidates were facing threats from activists, particularly those associated with the Students' Federation of India (SFI), to coerce them into withdrawing their candidacies. Shifana's petition also claimed damage to university property and a lack of adequate protection from the police. In response, Justice N. Nagaresh of the Kerala High Court issued a directive mandating the deployment of sufficient police personnel from the commencement of polling through to the declaration of results. This measure aimed to ensure the peaceful conduct of the election and prevent any violent incidents. Student Activism
P.K. Shifana is a student activist known for her leadership roles within student organizations and university politics at University of Calicut. A key aspect of her activism has been her involvement in Haritha, the women's wing of the Muslim Students Federation (MSF). In 2021, she and other Haritha members filed a complaint with the Kerala Women's Commission against a male leader of the MSF. This action led to a public controversy and the suspension of the Haritha state committee.[9]
Her activism also includes her role in university union politics. She has been an active participant in student union elections at Calicut University, where she has held key positions, including Chairperson of the Calicut University Union.[2]
