PACE Suite is an application packaging and virtualization software that allows creating and editing Windows Installer (MSI) packages and App-V packages. The tool allows creating new MSI packages and converting non-silent EXE setups to silent MSI packages.[1]
Functionality[edit]
PACE Suite is used for application repackaging, virtualization, and deployment. These features are supplemented by package complexity estimation, creation of reporting documentation, and validation of the created packages against standard internal consistency evaluators, custom CUB files, or a set of defined rules.
Key features[edit]
- Creating x86 and x64 silent MSI packages
- Converting non-silent EXE setups to silent MSI packages
- Wrapping silent installations into MSI packages
- Creating App-V and ThinApp packages[2]
- Publishing packages to System Center Configuration Manager
- Capturing changes in the file system, registry, Windows services and environment variables to create installation projects
- Compatibility with Windows Server 2008, Windows 7, Windows Server 2012, Windows 8, and Windows 10[3]
Converting EXE setups to MSI packages[edit]
PACE Suite uses the EXE to MSI conversion process that is based on capturing changes performed by an EXE installation. PACE Suite captures file system and registry changes to create an installation project and generate an MSI package that would apply those changes.[4] PACE Suite detects system changes in two modes: system monitoring and system image.[5]
Llimitations[edit]
PACE Suite is primarily used by application packagers and IT service providers who need to create preconfigured silent installations ready for automatic remote deployment. Hence, it has a limited set of features for creating fully functional MSI packages designed for interactive installation. The limitations include the following:
- PACE Suite allows creating VMware ThinApp packages, however, editing is not supported.
- Creation of Universal Windows Platform apps is not supported.
