History[edit]
Rhyme & Reason Records was founded in Jersey City, New Jersey, by Emmy Black in 2015.[1] Prior to Rhyme & Reason, Black worked at a recording studio and graduated from Ramapo College with a degree in Music Industry, and was a former A&R person at Bar/None Records and The Orchard.[2] On signing artists, Black states that her ambition is to release "music that helps people, music that you keep going back to whenever you go through a breakup or you feel happy, music that changes people's lives." Rhyme & Reason Records partook in the 2018 North Jersey Indie Rock Festival.[3] The label name comes from the two princesses, Rhyme and Reason, from the children's fantasy novel The Phantom Tollbooth.[2]
