Pakitherium (meaning "Pakistan beast") is a dubious genus of extinct rhinocerotoid from the Shagala Formation of Pakistan. The type, and currently only, species is P. shagalai, named by Malkani et al. (2013).[1]
Discovery and naming
The holotype is MSID-201 to MSID-227, which was discovered between 2000 and 2013 in the Shagala Formation and consists of a partial skeleton including a partial skull, vertebral centra and a pair of distal ribs with preserved cross section.[1]
Pakitherium shagalai was named and described by Malkani et al. (2013).[1]
Classification
Malkani et al. (2013) described Pakitherium as a member of the Paraceratheriidae.[1]
