History[edit]

The temple was built by the Shaivite people who lived there to prevent rain and disease. Later this temple became a direction temple. The temple was built by the people and in the early days the pooja of this temple was done by the priests and the Brahmins have been doing pooja since 1977. The temple, which was found in a small hut in the early days, was later built into a large temple and consecrated. The temple was rebuilt in 2010 and consecrated, This made it the largest Amman temple in Vavuniya. The Rajagopuram is currently under construction at the temple.

Reconstruction[edit]

The Temple is currently housed in Bālasthānam (“Balalayam” is a miniature temporary structure erected during the renovation and Kumbhabhishekam ceremony in a Hindu Temple. ‘Baala’ means mini and ‘Aalaya’ means temple or structure in Sanskrit.) and construction of the royal tower is underway. The Kumbabishekam is expected in the year 2022.
