Paper Idol is an indie rock nu-disco fusion band from Los Angeles, California that was founded in 2018.
History
The group was formed by Matan KG and former classmate Adam Rochelle in Los Angeles, California.[1] Matan KG attended Wesleyan University where he founded a dance-punk project in 2016 that evolved into the group Paper Idol. After graduating with a degree in neuroscience, Matan KG decided to pursue a career in music rather than attend medical school [2] Paper Idol released their first single in 2018 and first album in 2022 with CloudKid record label. [3][4] The group has collaborated with artists including Yung Bae in 2019 [5] as well as both Wankelmut and NASAYA in 2020. [6]
Musical style and influences
Paper Idol is described as a fusion of dance music and indie rock that defies classification into a single genre. [3] In a 2022 interview, Matan KG said that Adam Rochelle came up with the term "delusional pop" to describe the Paper Idol musical style. [7] Later in the same interview, Matan KG said that LCD Soundsystem, Justice (band) and Flume (musician) are influences.
