Parakkai (Tamil: பறக்கை) is a neighbourhood in Kanyakumari district of Tamil Nadu state in the peninsular India.[1]
Parakkai is located at an altitude of 40 m above the mean sea level with the geographical coordinates of 8°08′09″N 77°27′06″E / 8.135800°N 77.451600°E
(i.e., 8°08'08.9"N, 77°27'05.8"E). Nagercoil, Kottar, Theroor, Thengampudur and Vallan Kumaran Vilai are some of the important neighbourhoods of Parakkai.
The biggest lake in Kanyakumari district, Parakkai Lake, is situated in Parakkai. Fisheries Training and Research Centre in Parakkai was attached with the Directorate of Sustainable Aquaculture in the year 2017 and renamed as Kanyakumari - Parakkai Centre for Sustainable Aquaculture, to uplift the socio-economic status of the fishing community and farming community in Kanyakumari district.[2] For the cultivation of loaches and to run a research centre in Parakkai, necessary steps are underway by the State Government of Tamil Nadu.[3] Suchindram Theroor Birds Sanctuary is located at about 1.6 km from here (Refer Google Maps).
There is a temple, Madhusoothana Perumal Temple, which is about 1,000 years old, in Parakkai.[4][5] Valikolli Arulmiguman Temple,[6] and Akkarai Mahadevar Temple[7] are also situated in Parakkai. These temples are under the control of Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department, Government of Tamil Nadu.
