Pars Video (Persian: پارس ويديو) is a Persian record label owned by Pars Video USA Inc. The label was founded in 1981 by Amir Kabehie. It is one of the oldest & largest Persian record labels with one of the largest Persian music catalogs including songs from artists such as Googoosh, Ebi, Dariush, Hayedeh, Moein, Aref, Andy, Leila Forouhar, Shohreh, Shahram Shabpareh and many more artists.
Background[edit]
Amir Kabehie immigrated from Tehran to Los Angeles in 1981. Given the mass exodus of Iranian artists due to the 1979 Iranian revolution, he felt compelled to preserve the entertainment portion of the Iranian heritage. He valued the importance of music and entertainment in the Iranian culture and vowed to provide this legacy to Iranians, of all ages, all over the world.
Pars Video was created shortly after, it started with traditional blockbuster hits such as Dai Jan Napoleon, Samad Agha, History of the Shah, and various musical videos from all-time favorite Iranian singers. After the video archive was preserved and available to Iranians again, Amir started the production and distribution of new albums with the best Iranian singers, many who also immigrated to Los Angeles. An entertainment hub was created in LA, thanks largely to Amir’s vision and leadership. Iranian singers were singing again, Iranian musicians were creating music again, Iranian songwriters were writing songs again. Cassettes were flooding the Iranian supermarkets and the first Iranian CD was produced by Pars Video. With this, concerts began again and Iranians were able to bring back into existence a key part of their heritage: Music, Dancing, Laughter, & Celebration.
In 1994, Amir experienced a spinal chord injury that left him permanently paralyzed from the neck down. This tragic event did not stop his love for Iranian music, in fact the music fueled him to continue on with his important mission of preserving Iranian culture. His paralysis left him with lots of time to immerse into lyrics, where he became a songwriter during this time. Although he was never one to publicize his own work (songs written by him are listed as only “Amir”), his lyrics were profound and clever. You might recognize some of his songs sang by Siavash Ghomeishi, Farshid Amin, and Rushid (to name a few). Although Amir Kabehie left this world in 2012, he left us with an unforgettable time period of hits and memories.
