Life & Education[edit]

The eldest of two children, Parthajeet was born in Guwahati on 3 April 1973 to Binoo Sarma, homemaker and Late Dr. Rajeswar Sarma, professor at Gauhati University. After completing his schooling from Don Bosco High School and later Cotton College, he moved to Sir J J College of Architecture where he graduated in 1990 with a degree in Architecture. He spent two years in Kolkata from 1995 until 1997 to complete his MBA from Indian Institute of Social Welfare & Business Management (IISWBM), Calcutta University.

He lives in Mumbai with his mother, wife Sibani, who also studied architecture and daughters Nikita & Mishika.

Professional career[edit]

Parthajeet held his first job in the Marketing Department of Mahindra Lifespaces (formerly Mahindra Realty), part of the Mahindra & Mahindra Group. They were one of the first corporate houses to enter the real estate market in India. Subsequently he worked with Colliers International, the international property consultant and then helped start the Indian offices of Australian Architectural Design Firm, the Smith Madden Group as an Associate Director. After six years of working in the corporate sector for the building industry, Parthajeet realised that he could make a greater impact in the rapidly changing industry by becoming an entrepreneur.

In his own words, the true motivation to turn to entrepreneurship was because he wished to 'explore himself in a wholesome way' and also wanted to provide a holistic solution for affordable housing in India. This resulted in iDream in 2003, which began by offering design and project management services to multinational corporations and large Indian companies. In 2009, Sarma collaborated with Asset Management Firm, Sam Circle Venture, to set up another firm called Projectwell. At present, Projectwell is involved in research and development activities to make the construction industry in India more effective. A development management firm, which helps convert land into viable projects, Projectwell is also involved in research and development activities. Such R&D efforts have resulted in path-breaking and award winning products and services for the industry.

Parthajeet won The Economic Times 'Power of Ideas' 2012 for 'Ideal Choice Homes'. The idea aimed at making the housing industry in India more standardised. News channel CNBC TV 18 covered the project as 'ICH on Young Turks' where Parthajeet explained the ideation behind ICH and how it was working towards improving the housing conditions in India along with providing employment to people.

His advice to new entrepreneurs is to start small, have patience and to learn from failures as every hindrance is an opportunity.

Smart Phones Dumb People?[edit]

Parthajeet has been an avid reader all his life and had been interested in writing from a very early age. His favourite book is Lateral Thinking by Edward D. Bono. The idea of writing a book struck him in 2013 when he decided to test himself as a writer. He wanted to write about his experiences as an entrepreneur and share his ideas with youngsters. This resulted in Parthajeet's debut novel Smart Phones Dumb People?, a realistic account of current issues in India such as increasing technology and corruption.

Smart Phones Dumb People? has generated favourable reviews and bloggers' buzz.

The idea and the inspiration behind the book is brilliant and in touch with the current scenario. – Vibina Venugopal, Goodreads.

Overall, Smart Phones Dumb People? is a nice and breezy read and pacy too... in the end I was left with too much food for thought. – Yatin Gupta, IBN Live.

All in all, the book talks about generic and relevant issues and it holds significance in our present lives. – Manjulika Pramod, Pendown

Other Interests[edit]

Parthajeet is an outdoors person and indulges in travelling, landscape photography (his first camera was a Click III camera), badminton and cycling (he has a folding cycle which he takes along on family vacations). He also likes watching Hollywood thrillers and light Bollywood films, Aamir Khan and Ranbir Kapoor being his favourites. At home when time permits, Parthajeet experiments with cooking and at times, names the dishes he makes and likes to try out food of all kinds whenever he is travelling. Parthajeet is vocal about issues close to his heart. He believes that people should come together and contribute towards improving basic amenities such as housing, education, healthcare, etc. instead of depending solely on the government.
