Passport-America is an international organization of recreational vehicle (RV) and camping enthusiasts and participating campgrounds and RV Parks. Its focus is to provide members 50% discounts off of nightly campsite fees at participating campgrounds. In exchange for providing the discount, participating campgrounds receive advertising in print and online. Being the first of its kind, Passport-America is also known as the “Original 50% Discount Camping Club”.[1]

History[edit]

Passport-America was founded in 1992 by campground owner Ray E. Fernandez in Long Beach, MS. As a small business owner, he developed Passport America as a cost effective means to attract more business by providing a discount.[1]

Participating Campgrounds[edit]

As of 2015, Passport-America has over 1,800 participating campgrounds and RV parks. The participating campgrounds are located only within the United States, Canada and Mexico. A campground or RV park owner is not required to pay a fee to join. However, the campground or RV park owner must sign an agreement and abide by the rules within the agreement to continue participation. In exchange for participation, the campground or RV Park owner will receive listings within Passport-America’s printed and online International Camping Directories.[2]

Campground Directories[edit]

Passport-America promotes Participating Campgrounds and RV Parks with their International Camping Directory. The directory is available in print and online. The directory information can be accessed online without having a membership, but a membership is required to receive the membership discount at participating campgrounds and RV Parks. However, there is a fee for shipping the printed directory. There are also mobile applications for every major platform available for no cost.[3]

Campground Directory Listing[edit]

Each participating campground and RV park’s directory listing includes space for the business name, phone number, fax number, email, website, nightly camping rate (fee), GPS coordinate, highlights (park amenities), written directions, and notes (i.e. discount limitations, additional charges, special rules, etc.).

Members[edit]

Recreational vehicle (RV) and camping enthusiasts can become a member by paying a membership fee. Memberships are available for one, two and three years. There are occasionally limited times in which longer term memberships may be available. Members have rules which are available online and within the printed directory. The membership is available to anyone traveling and camping in North America. Members are provided with an ID Card which proves their membership. The ID Card also includes the date in which the membership expires. Proof of membership must be presented at participating campgrounds and RV parks to receive the member discount.[3]

Member Discount[edit]

Passport-America is a 50% discount camping club. The 50% discount is only given on the nightly camping fee at only participating campgrounds and RV Parks and cannot be combined with other discounts and special offers. The discount is provided on a space availability basis. However, participating campground and RV park owners may include limitations with the discount (see NOTES within each individual participating campground and RV Park’s directory listing). The discount primarily applies to RV site camping, however, there are some participating parks also offering 50% off of their tent sites. Campgrounds offering discounts on tent sites will indicate within their directory listing if the discount is offered.[3]

Referral Program[edit]

Passport-America Members and Participating Campgrounds can earn a reward in the form of discounts or money for referring both new members and campgrounds. The referring member or participating campground’s identification number must be provided at the time of when either the new member or campground joins Passport America.[4][5]
