Patrick McGrath (born March 17, 1993) is an American professional ice hockey player. He is currently playing within the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins organization of the American Hockey League (AHL).
Playing career[edit]
Prior to turning professional, McGrath played for the Prince Edward Island Rocket out of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL). In the 2012–13 season, McGrath was named the most penalized player with 171 penalty minutes and 29 fighting majors.[1]
On September 30, 2013, McGrath turned pro and signed with the Wheeling Nailers out of the ECHL.
McGrath plays a crash and bang, grinding style of hockey and is known for dropping his gloves to fight. One reporter described him as "completely fearless. No one in the ECHL has more fighting majors than the 27 he’s picked up since the start of last season and he’s improving steadily as far as his speed and effectiveness on the forecheck."[2]
On December 27, 2014, McGrath became the first locally born and raised player to suit up for the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins on Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza ice.[3]
