Paul Barry (American bartender)
Paul Barry (born 08 August) is an Irish-born, American-based bartender. He has been named "Boston's Best Bartender" by the Boston Herald and the Improper Bostonian. He is currently the daytime bartender at Grafton Street Pub & Grill in Cambridge, MA[1]
Career[edit]
Barry started his bartending career at age 9. He worked at Egan's in Waterford, Ireland. In 1985 when he immigrated to the United States, he worked at Bohill's in Chelsea, Massachusetts. He then had stints at the Hardrock Cafe in Boston; Upstairs at the Pudding in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and various other bars in Lynn, Allston, and Brighton.[2]
In 1996 the owner of The Grafton Group, Patrick Lee, recruited Barry to be the daytime bartender at Grafton Street Pub & Grill in Harvard Square. Barry has worked at Grafton Street ever since.[3] He is the longest-tenured bartender in Harvard Square. It has been estimated that he has poured over 100,000 pints of Guinness.[4][5]
Bartending Style[edit]
His regular customers like to say that he isn't a bartender he is the bartender.[6] Some of his more prominent clientele have included Al Gore, Bruce Springsteen, and The Archbishop of Canterbury. He also regularly serves the presidents of Harvard University and many of Harvard's prominent faculty and administration, including Tom Nichols and Daniel Gilbert.[1][2][5]
