Paul Suggitt (born 1968) is a English endurance adventurer, charity fundraiser, Motivational speaker and Author[1], who in June 2019, has completeted the 192 miles (309 km) Coast to Coast Walk via the Wainwright route completely BAREFOOT, in 14 days.[2][3] Suggitt is no stranger to extreme endurance adventures, in 2017 he completed a journey of 10,000 miles (16,000 km) around, up down and across mainland Britain by a combination of walking, running and riding a bike. [4] He is one of Britain's few extreme barefoot adventurers and the first person over the age of 40 to consistently do an ultra- distance (more than 26.2-mile (42.2 km)) a day for 336 consecutive days on a single adventure, averaging (29-mile (47 km)) per day.[4]

Biography[edit]

Suggitt was born in Hartlepool[5] on 1 November 1968. He attended High Tunstall College of Science. Aged 19 Suggitt moved to Mallorca and his love of adventure began, with his days spent on the mountain trails. Suggitt returned to England and trained as a Web developer whilst spending as much time as possible in the mountains and on the trails of the Lake District National Park, feeding his thirst for adventure.

Suggitt is a qualified Aviator, beginning his flying on microlight aircraft, moving onto flying gliders and then fixed wing aircraft.

In December 2017, Suggitt was awarded the Crest of Hartlepool[6], an award presented to him from the then Mayor and Mayoress of Hartlepool, Councillor Paul Beck and his wife Mary Beck.[7]

In June 2019, Suggitt undertook his most extreme challenge to date, completing the Coast to Coast Walk, some 192 miles (309 km) across 3 national Parks, the Lake District National Park, the Yorkshire Dales National Park and the North Yorkshire Moors National Park in 14 days, completeing it despite great injury to his feet.

Radio work[edit]

Around his adventures and other working commitments, Suggitt is the host of the Big Drive Home radio show broadcast on 102.4 Radio_Hartlepool each weekday from 2pm till 6pm, and the Saturday Show from 10am till 1pm.

Suggitt’s adventures have also been the subject of many radio interviews with BBC Tees, BBC Radio Newcastle and Radio Hartlepool

Charitable activity[edit]

In January 2017, Suggitt embarked on a 10,000 miles (16,000 km) adventure challenge[8] that saw him walk, run and ride a bike around mainland Britain for 336 days to help raise awareness and funds for The Chris Lucas Trust Rhabdomyosarcoma Appeal.[4]

In 2018, Suggitt was asked to become an ambassador for Hartlepool Ambulance Charity, a charity set up to help local lives in his hometown of Hartlepool that empowers the community with lifesaving skills, a defibrillator rollout program and providing medic cover across the town.

2019 saw Suggitt raise many thousands of pounds for The Chris Lucas Trust,a Childrens Cancer Trust helping fight Rhabdomyosarcoma and Hartlepool Ambulance Charity through his barefoot endurance adventure.

Speaking[edit]

Suggitt uses his adventures as a foundation for his speaking events in schools and institutions with his primary aim of helping to inspire the next generation of adventurers and those who have a love for adventure.

  • Ran Edinburgh Leith to Berwick upon Tweed, a distance of (78-mile (126 km)) via coastal trails in 20 hours
  • Cycled Scottish Lowlands and Highlands in 6 days, covering (900-mile (1,400 km))
  • Cycled Gretna Green to Barrow in Furness following the Cumbrian coastline in 14 hours
  • Awarded the Crest of Hartlepool for outstanding achievements in adventure and an being an ambassador for the town of Hartlepool[7]
