Paviors Lodge Number 5646
The Paviors Lodge Number 5646 is the masonic lodge associated with the Worshipful Company of Paviors and it is governed by the United Grand Lodge of England and administered by the Metropolitan Grand Lodge of London. Meetings are held four times per year at the Charterhouse in London.[1]
History[edit]
On 27 November 1936, Harold Golden, the Lodge’s the first Secretary, submitted a letter of petition to the United Grand Lodge of England which was approved on 2 December and the Warrant of the Lodge was issued. The new Lodge was consecrated at Freemasons' Hall on 25 February 1937 by the Grand Director of Ceremonies, Charles Nichol.[2] The founding Master was Major A. D. C. Rice.[3]
Initially, membership was limited to members of the Worshipful Company of Paviors. On the 1st of March 1944, the members amended the by-laws by resolution allowing Worshipful Company of Paviors members' sons who also were Freemen of the City, as well as members of any City Livery company to become eligible for membership.[3][4]
In 1999, the Paviors Lodge founded the Holy Royal Arch Chapter, Paviors and City Livery Chapter Number 5646.[5]
Charitable Activities[edit]
Masonic and non-masonic causes are supported through the Lodge's Relief Chest.[6] The Paviors Lodge received a Patron Award for its contribution towards the £2,000,000 for the purchase and maintenance of a second helicopter for London's Air Ambulance.[7] Smaller charities, such as the Paviors Company livery Trust for Charities receive regular support from the Lodge.[8]
