Pawan Singh Arora (پون سنگھ اروڑا) is a Pakistani Sikh actor and a former government officer. He was the first Sikh official in Pakistan to be employed as Public Relations Officer for Governor of the Punjab at the Department of Public Relations, in the Governor's House, Lahore, Punjab (Pakistan).[1][2][3][4][5] He also served as coordinator minority affairs in Punjab[6]. He previously served as the first Sikh officer in Nankana Sahib, on the post of District Information Officer in the Government of the Punjab.[7]
He started his career as Radio jockey from Mast fm103 network was also associated with Apna FM network[8] and donned many hats as content creator, theater artist, actor[9] and also known as one of the famous Sikh youtuber[10]. He received a Master's degree in communication studies and M.Phil in Gender Development and Human Rights from the University of the Punjab. He attended Washington College of Law (AUWCL), American University as Hubert Humphrey Fellow for International Religious freedom 2021-2022.[11] He is also an IVLP (International Visitor Leadership Program) alumnus for promoting Religious and Heritage Tourism.[12][13]
He is an Impact award holder and vocal on educating minorities their rights, and preservation of Sikh heritage in Pakistan.[14][15]
His family is a resident of Nankana Sahib and didn't migrate during partition of 1947.[16] Punjab Governor Chaudhry Mohammad Sarwar acknowledged the services of his family for the Gurudwaras and Sikh community.[17]
Education and career[edit]
He graduated from Punjab University, Lahore with a degree in Commerce. He started his career as a radio jockey. He also worked as a script translator at the Ajoka Theater, Lahore. Before this, he was working as district information officer at Nankana Sahib.[18][19][20] Pawan Singh has been working as Public Relations Officer at Governor House, Lahore since January 2019.[4]
In an interview to a Pakistani TV News channel, he stated, "There is a quota reserved for minorities but I was selected on open merit system."[18]
Honours[edit]
He has been honoured by the Department of Human Rights and Minorities, Punjab (Pakistan). In November, 2019, he assisted governor Punjab in the Kartarpur Corridor project (sacred shrine of Baba Guru Nanak inside Pakistan) to facilitate Sikh pilgrims to perform their religious rituals there.[18]
