Paweł Śliwiński (born 1984) − Polish visual artist, painter. Graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw (2004-2009). Creator of paintings, drawings and sculptures. His works are in the collections of ING Polish Art Foundation and the National Museum in Gdańsk[1].
Biography[edit]
Paweł Śliwiński was born in Chełm on 11 May 1984. He grew up in Kasiłan, a village near the Polish-Ukrainian border. In 1999, he started attending the Art High School in Zamość. Later, he moved to Warsaw, where he studied painting (between 2004-2009) at the Warsaw Academy of Fine Arts, in the studio of Leon Tarasewicz. In 2014, he was included in the international selection of 100 Painters of Tomorrow, presenting the most promising and inspiring artists of the young generation.
In 2009, together with Paweł Sysiak, Tymek Borowski and Sławomir Pawszak, he co-created the Gallery "A" (Galeria A).
Śliwiński's paintings are classified as part of the group of painters called Tired of Reality (Zmęczeni Rzeczywistością), who gave up realism for new models of artistic engagement.[2] In his practice, Paweł Śliwiński undertakes many projects based on cooperation, most often with Tymek Borowski. Śliwiński's works often make reference to landscapes of the borderlands, both in terms of nature and the everyday life in a post-soviet, agricultural village. Śliwiński portraits the community that he experienced and that − since then − has been forgotten by others. His paintings often feature people who are tired, sick, drunk, or going through a mental crisis. In many of his works we can see references to the use of psychoactive substances or psychotropic medications. With a lot of ease, Śliwiński makes reference to both painting classics, as well as naive painting and art brut.[3] He combines different traditions and styles in a creative way, into his own, characteristic manner of expression. The artist lives and works in Warsaw.
