Peer Viqar Ul Aslam is a Kashmiri Journalist [1] and Social Activist [2]. He reports for Morocco World News and is the Chairman of Save the Eyes Foundation [3] an non-governmental organisation providing medical and financial assistance to the Pellet Victims in Indian administered Kashmir. He was awarded the Jammu and Kashmir Innovators Forum Youth Icon Award in 2015.

Early life[edit]

Peer Viqar Ul Aslam was born in Srinagar. He did his schooling from Walden High School, and he later completed his Bachelors in Computer Application and Masters in Journalism from Media Education Research Centre, University of Kashmir.

Career[edit]

Peer Viqar Ul Aslam [4] started working as a Technology Journalist with International news tabloid Morocco World News, and reported from New Delhi, India [5] and later also worked with various local dailies in Jammu and Kashmir like the Rising Kashmir Newspaper[6] and The Kashmir Pulse [7] as OP-ed Editor.

Injured[edit]

While covering covering 2017 parliamentary elections in Budgam, Kashmir, Peer Viqar Ul Aslam was held on gun point by a Special Operational Group officer of Jammu and Kashmir Police, and in an attempt to flee from the spot was badly wounded by stones pelted the government forces in the area. Awards[edit]

In 2015, He was awarded the Youth Icon Award in the Technology category, for his contribution to the IT sector in the state of Jammu and Kashmir[10]. He is also the founder of Best Entrepreneur Award [11] wining Software Company, Eridanus Software Solutions [12] in Jammu and Kashmir.

Social Work[edit]

In 2016, soon after the killing Hizbul Mujahideen Commander Burhan Wani, hundreds of youth in Indian administered Kashmir were hit by pellets fired by Jammu and Kashmir Police and Central Reserve Police Force to restraint the protesters. In response to the serious on-ground situation, Peer Viqar Ul Aslam founded Save the Eyes Foundation and reached to hundreds of victims blinded by pellets, providing medical and financial assistance. He also organised the first international fund raising event for pellet victims of Kashmir in Malaysia. [14] [15]

His particular areas of interest are Journalism, Human Rights Activism, and providing rehabilitation to victims of Kashmir Conflict particularly the Pellet Victims., blinded in one or both eyes by Pellet guns in Kashmir.

Peer Viqar Ul Aslam is a social media icon followed by a thousands of people on his Facebook page, he runs most of his social work campaigns on Facebook and has reached millions of people across the world. [16]

Death Threats[edit]

He received numerous death threats for his extensive work [17] on Human right violations in Jammu and Kashmir allegedly by Indian Army and Police. [18] His social media accounts were flooded with threats for helping the pellet victims and was forced to shut down his Social Media Handles. [19] He has reached senior police officials and has been guaranteed safety, as a law abiding citizen and a responsible Journalist. [20]
