The pernicon is a type of fictional insectoid monster in the Dungeons & Dragons fantasy role-playing game.
Publication history[edit]
The pernicon first appeared in the original Advanced Dungeons & Dragons first edition Fiend Folio, published in 1981.[1] It was further detailed in Dragon magazine #108 (April 1986) in "The Ecology of the Pernicon".
The pernicon appeared in second edition Advanced Dungeons & Dragons in Monstrous Compendium Fiend Folio Appendix (1992)[2] and appears under the "insect" heading in the Monstrous Manual (1993).[3]
Description[edit]
A pernicon is a brightly colored insect that resembles a grasshopper, with coloring an odd mixture of red, yellow, ocher, and blue. These desert dwellers form swarms to attack and drain water and bodily fluids from prey.
