Perry Mansfield
Perry Thomas Mansfield (born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada) is a Canadian-born otolaryngologist and head and neck surgeon based in San Diego, California. He specializes in skull base surgery, head and neck oncology, and sleep apnea treatment, and is recognized for his contributions to minimally invasive surgical techniques and regional medical programs. Mansfield has been named a Top Doctor by San Diego Magazine for 17 consecutive years and is a perennial recipient of multiple Castle Connolly Top Doctor awards.
Early life and education
Perry Mansfield was born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. He earned his medical degree (MD) with honors from the University of Toronto Faculty of Medicine in 1987.[1] Mansfield completed a comprehensive surgery internship at Toronto Hospital in 1988, followed by a general surgery residency at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center in 1989.[2] He pursued a clinical and research fellowship in plastic and reconstructive surgery at St. Michael’s Hospital, University of Toronto, in 1991, and completed a residency and fellowship in head and neck surgery at the University of Toronto in 1993.[1][3]
Career
Mansfield is board-certified in otolaryngology by the American Board of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery (1994) and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (FRCSC).[3] He serves as the director of head and neck oncology and skull base surgery at Senta Clinic in San Diego, a position he has held since co-founding the clinic in 2004.[2] Senta Clinic is a regional referral center for skull base disease, managing over 5,000 inpatient surgeries and 50,000 outpatient visits under Mansfield’s leadership.[4]
In 1995, Mansfield established the first regional multisystem Skull Base Surgery and Head and Neck Multidisciplinary Tumor Conference in San Diego, facilitating collaboration among specialties such as neurosurgery and radiation oncology.[3] He is recognized for developing minimally invasive techniques, including endoscopic Zenker’s diverticulum surgery and endonasal skull base tumor removal, as well as 3D endoscopic navigational protocols. Mansfield has also contributed to radiology protocols for sleep apnea diagnosis and surgical treatments.[1]
Mansfield served as chief of staff and chief of surgery at Alvarado Hospital Medical Center in the mid-2000s, elected by over 600 physicians.[2] He is affiliated with Sharp Memorial Hospital, Sharp Grossmont Hospital, Scripps Memorial Hospital, and Alvarado Hospital Medical Center, providing neurotrauma and emergency care support. He is the fellowship director at Senta Clinic and a board member of the Steven Prewitt Skull Base Disease Foundation, which he has chaired since 2005.[2]
Research and innovations
Mansfield has contributed to peer-reviewed medical literature, co-authoring a study on sleep apnea published in BMC Neuroscience and a pilot study on transmembranous electromyography (TM-EMG) for oropharyngeal muscle assessment in Muscle & Nerve (2022).[5][6] Mansfield is the principal investigator for a clinical trial on novel sleep apnea treatments and founded Amerisleep Diagnostics Inc., a sleep diagnostic facility serving Kaiser Permanente and UC San Diego Health.[7]

Mansfield has been named a Top Doctor in otolaryngology by San Diego Magazine for 17 consecutive years (2005–2022), based on peer nominations. He has received multiple Castle Connolly Top Doctor awards.[3]

Other ventures
Outside medicine, Mansfield is the CEO of Precious Metals Fine Motorcars of San Diego, a dealership specializing in vintage automobiles. He founded MSAI Inc., a healthcare and business management company with interests in real estate and automotive industries. Mansfield has been involved in developing a neuroscience hospital in Southern California with Sharp Healthcare.[1]
