From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Pierre "Pete" Beauregard is an American political and environmental activist. He ran as a Democrat for the United States House of Representatives in the 2018 election for California's 50th congressional district against Duncan D. Hunter.[1]

Biography[edit]

Beauregard is descended from a family of Acadians[2] that includes the Confederate general of the same name.[1] He graduated from Burbank High School in 1967 and enlisted in the United States Navy shortly thereafter.[2] He served during the Vietnam War and experienced the loss of his best friend in battle. After returning to the US, he founded a free clinic in Huntington Beach, California, which provided family planning services in the era before Roe vs. Wade.[3]

As an anti-war activist, Beauregard protested the 2003 invasion of Iraq and later joined the presidential campaign of Dennis Kucinich.[1] An advocate of renewable energy, Beauregard lives in a zero-energy building that he built[4] and has worked to bring solar power to the Navajo community.[5] In addition, he uses his ranch to sequester carbon in the soil through sustainable agriculture techniques.[4]

In July 2016, Beauregard served as a delegate for the Bernie Sanders campaign at the 2016 Democratic National Convention. In April 2017, he announced a run for Congress against Duncan Hunter in California's 50th District.[1] On December 11, 2017, Beauregard suspended his campaign and endorsed Ammar Campa-Najjar to promote party unity.[6]
