Peter Jerrome

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Peter Jerrome (born 1937) attended Midhurst Grammar School and was encouraged by headmaster Mr. Lucas[1] to study history. After training as a Russian linguist during National Service and with a developing interest in Hebrew and Old Testament history, he studied theology at University of Cambridge. [2] Jerrome returned to Midhurst in 1961 at Lucas's request to teach English after Ian Serrailler had been taken ill in the first week of term.

Historian and Author[edit]

He is an English historian and author[3][4] with a long association to Petworth where he has been Chairman of the Petworth Society[5] for over 40 years. He was awarded the MBE in 1998 for services to the town[6][7]. His main subject areas are in rural West Sussex, England.[8]

Collaborations[edit]

He set up Window Press[3] in conjunction with illustrator Jonathan Newdick to publish a manuscript by photographer George Garland in 1976, recalling Petworth before photography[9] and has subsequently edited many compilations of Garland's photographs.
