Peter Skautrup Centret, formerly the Institute of Jutish (Jutlandic) Language and Culture Research (Institut for Jysk Sprog- og Kulturforskning), is a research centre of Århus University. It is the main centre for Jutish (Jutlandic) philology/dialectology.
The institution was established in 1932, then privately funded, and headed by professor Peter Skautrup. From 1972 it was an institute of Århus University.[1] From 2004 it became a subdivision of the Nordic Institute of the university and later of the larger Institute of Communication and Culture.
From 1932 to 1978 it published the journal Sprog og Kultur ("Language and culture"), and from 1982 onwards Ord & Sag ("Word and cause").
The Jutish Dictionary[edit]
The main publication of the institute is Jysk Ordbog ("Jutish Dictionary"), based on 3 million index cards collected since the 1930s and approximately 1050 hours of audio recordings of dialects from all parts of Jutland. Since 2000, it has been published online, but is still not completely finished.
