Pierre Le Manh is an American and French business executive. Since 2022 he has been the president and CEO of the Project Management Institute.[1] He was previously the global deputy CEO, and CEO North America of the market research and opinion polling multinational Ipsos.
Early life and education[edit]
The first born of a family of three children, Pierre Le Manh was born in Brunoy, France. His father is a construction engineer who had immigrated to France from Vietnam and his mother a French physicist engineer. He attended Collège Sainte-Barbe in Paris and Lycée Lakanal in Sceaux, Hauts-de-Seine. He was admitted to ESSEC Business School Grande école program and graduated in 1988. He speaks fluently English, French and Italian.
Career[edit]
After graduating from ESSEC Business School, Pierre Le Manh completed his military service in Montreal, working for the economic intelligence department of the Ministry of Economy and Finance (France). Returning to Paris, he joined the management consulting firm Accenture and later became CFO of Adami, the company managing performers copyrights under French law. In 1996, he joined Encyclopædia Universalis during a period when digital disruption was impacting business models in the publishing industries[2] and he became the chief executive officer in 1998. He left in 2000 following constant disputes between the US and French shareholders, Encycopaedia Britannica and Club Français du Livre,[3] to join the database marketing company Consodata,[4] listed on the French nouveau marché. He ran successively the operations in France, UK, and Italy, before being appointed Global Chief Executive Officer in 2002[5] by the main shareholder, Telecom Italia. He then led the sale of Consodata to private equity firm BC Partners,[6] as part of a €5.6 billion deal that included a portfolio of companies owned by Telecom Italia and was the largest ever LBO operation in Europe at the time.
After BC Partners resold Consodata's business outside of Italy to Acxiom in 2004, Le Manh joined the Paris headquartered, publicly-listed market research giant Ipsos,[7] initially as CEO for Europe. In 2010, he was appointed global deputy CEO and a member of the board of directors.[8] Following the acquisition of Ipsos global competitor Synovate, he relocated to New York City to oversee the combined North American business.[9][10] In this role, he was a regular commentator on the US presidential[11] and New York City mayoral elections[12] on various TV networks. He left Ipsos in 2021 and became the president and chief executive officer of PMI (Project Management Institute) in 2022,[13] where he frequently speaks about enterprise transformation enabled by responsible and effective project management.[14][15][16][17][18][19][20]
