Pipe Nation is an upcoming Canadian drama television series currently in post-production stage. It is created and directed by Raoul Bhatt. The series is shot in Sundre, Alberta, Canada. The planned ten-episode production has an estimated budget of CAD 500,000 for each episode. It is scheduled to be released on July 1, 2021. The story portrays the hardworking people of the Canadian energy sector, with a focus on a debt-ridden single mother working in the male-dominated oil industry.
Plot[edit]
The story is set in the fictional town of Hardwell, which lies on the border of two provinces that are at odds with each other due to differences in their energy values.[1] Wendy, the show's protagonist, is a single mother deep in debt, who takes a job as a pipe labourer at a remote camp near the town, and subsequently runs into protests and antipathy from people who are opposed to the oil industry. As tensions grow between workers and neighbouring communities, Wendy is challenged to protect the industry and her only source of income.[2]
Cast and characters[edit]
- Georgina Lightning as Wendy
- Nels Lennarson as Grady
- Alexis McKenna as Ava
- Nimet Kanji as Rita
- Anna Primiani as Responder
- Griffin Cork as Cody
- Mike Vickers as Ryan
Music[edit]
The show features various genres of music, including rock, blues, country, EDM, and classical.[3]
Production[edit]
Production of the show was welcomed by the Albertan community of Sundre due to the benefits filming would inevitably bring to the town.[4] However, the series also received some online criticism due to its perceived promotion of sex and drug culture, which are both depicted on the show.[5]
Filming wrapped up at the end of March 2021.[6]
