Plan 9 is Pakistan's largest startup incubator situated in the Arfa Software Technology Park, Lahore. It is asserted to be Pakistan's first technology startup incubator,[1][2][3] and it was established by Punjab Information Technology Board.
History[edit]
Plan 9 was established in 2012 by Umar Saif (who is serving as chairman of Punjab Information Technology Board)[4] with Nabeel Akmal Qadeer being the head of the Incubator. It was inaugurated by Chief Minister of Punjab Shahbaz Sharif as a part of his vision to develop young entrepreneurs in the technology sector.[5][6]
Salient Features[edit]
Plan 9 offers startup incubation for tech ideas for a period of six months. Each year it processes two cycles of incubation. Pitching sessions to select startups for each session conducted in Lahore, Islamabad and Karachi.[7][8] Plan 9 is recently listed in the Top 50 Startup incubators of the world. It has big investors attraction due to infrastructure and government's official support.[9]
Successful startups of the Plan 9 are Patari.pk, The Markhor, Emoey.com, Car Butlers, Car Chabi, Wifigen.xyz, Transparent Hands, Mezaaj, Vivid Technologies and Affordable.pk.[10] Plan9 Signs MOUs With 3 Austin Startup Incubators to develop collaboration between the startups.[11] Plan 9 is a part of Global Entrepreneurship week celebrations around the world.[12] It is partner with Pakistan's first ever co-working space Techhub Connect which is providing working space for freelancers.[13][14][15]
