Playtech BGT Sports (PBS) is a sports betting software development company and partly-owned subsidiary of the Playtech group of companies. Originally founded by Armin Sageder as Best Gaming Technology GmbH (BGT) in Vienna, Austria in 2005, the company was acquired by Playtech in the summer of 2016 in a deal worth around €138m.[1][2][3]

As part of the acquisition, BGT was merged with a number of Playtech’s other acquisitions including Mobenga, Geneity and Unilogic, who had previously been operating as Playtech’s sports betting arm. In November 2016, BGT CEO Armin Sageder was appointed Chief Executive Officer of the Playtech BGT Sports Group. The company employs more than 600 people and has offices in a number of locations, including Vienna, London, Malmö, Bremen and Sofia and its headquarters in Nicosia, Cyprus.[3][4][5]

PBS provides software for Self-Service Betting Terminals (SSBTs) and relevant services to various operators including Ladbrokes Coral, Betfred, Paddy Power Betfair, OPAP and Codere within the UK, Ireland, Austria, Germany, Greece and Spain.[3][6][7] The business model is based on a revenue share of the gross win margin from each SSBT. At the end of fiscal year 2016, PBS provided approximately 27,000 SSBTs, Compact Terminals and Tablets with its betting software to licensed operators. In total the company works with more than 80 licensees in 24 territories resulting in more than 30,000 live products.[3]

It’s Sportsbook interface also hosts exclusive content from horse racing content provider Racing Post.[8][9]

In 2017, PBS announced the launch of its BetTracker product, which allows customers to transfer bets to their mobile devices after placing them in-shop. After transferring the betslip, customers are then able to watch their bets progress and even perform an early cash-out. The mobile application, which is available for both Android and iOS, has now gone live with various customers including Betfred, JenningsBet and Boylesports.[10][11]
