PlentyONE (formerly plentymarkets) is a German software company based in Kassel that develops a cloud-based multichannel e-commerce ERP system for online retailers.[1][2]

History

The company was founded in 2006 by Jan Griesel in Kassel as plentySystems GmbH and was entered in the Kassel commercial register on 18 October 2006.[3][4] Griesel had begun developing the underlying shop software in 2001 as a one-man business, initially for an eBay power seller, and his brother Steffen Griesel later joined as a second managing director.[3]

The company traded as plentySystems GmbH until September 2012, when it was renamed plentymarkets GmbH after its main product; in March 2019 it was converted into a stock corporation, plentysystems AG.[4]

In a regional business series in the Hessische/Niedersächsische Allgemeine (HNA), the company gave the number of merchants using its platform as more than 2,500 in 2012 and as about 4,000 in 2015.[3][2]

The plentyONE brand was introduced in June 2023 as an enterprise product and service package.[5] In November 2024, the company brought its plentysystems, plentymarkets and plentyONE brands together under plentyONE as a single umbrella brand.[6] Later that month, the investment firm PSG Equity announced an investment in the company; the size of the stake and the amount invested were not disclosed.[1] The transaction was notified to the German Federal Cartel Office as an indirect acquisition of shares in and of control over plentysystems AG on 11 December 2024 and was cleared on 7 January 2025.[7] According to HNA, the company employed more than 300 people at the time, and founder Jan Griesel remained chief executive and a shareholder.[8] In March 2025 the stock corporation was converted back into a limited liability company as PlentyONE GmbH; in August 2025 it was merged into the Berlin-based Euclide Bidco GmbH, which in October 2025 took the name PlentyONE GmbH and moved its registered seat to Kassel.[9]

Software

The company's product is a cloud-based commerce platform that combines an online shop with connections to online marketplaces including eBay and Amazon.[2] According to the HNA, the system is aimed at online retailers who sell through several channels at once and want to manage them from a single system.[2] Its functions cover order processing, invoicing, payment, shipping and inventory management.[1] Since 2013 the software has also supported the shop system Shopware.[10] When the German online marketplace Hitmeister was relaunched as real.de in February 2017 following its takeover by the hypermarket chain Real, the marketplace ran on the plentymarkets system, according to the IT trade publication silicon.de.[11]

Independent surveys of shop system use in the German-speaking market have recorded only small shares for plentymarkets.[12][13] In the ZHAW Online Retailer Survey 2021, in which 353 online retailers in Switzerland and Austria were asked which online shop system they used, plentymarkets was not among the systems reported individually; it was named by a small number of respondents and ranked ninth in the study's list of further systems mentioned.[12] For the 2025 study year of the annual survey of Germany's 1,000 largest online shops by the EHI Retail Institute and ecommerceDB, the trade journal iBusiness placed plentymarkets among the systems at the lower end of the ten most frequently detected shop systems, where in its assessment the differences in market share are too small to support reliable conclusions; in that study no shop system could be identified for 40 percent of the shops examined.[13]
