Pocketly is an Indian financial technology company headquartered in Nagpur, Maharashtra. Founded in 2019, the platform provides small-ticket personal credit and micro-lending services primarily targeted at college students and young salaried professionals.[1]
History
Pocketly was established in 2019 by Aarav Bhatia and Navdeesh Ahuja to address short-term liquidity needs for individuals lacking traditional credit histories.[2]
In July 2021, the company secured seed funding from angel investors to build its algorithmic credit underwriting models.[3]
In March 2022, Pocketly raised $3 million in a mix of debt and equity funding led by Dholakia Ventures. Other participating angel investors included Kunal Shah (founder of CRED) and Apurva Parekh (director at Pidilite Industries).[1] The capital was allocated toward expanding loan disbursals and scaling operations.[1]
Operations and regulatory model
Pocketly operates as a Digital Lending Application (DLA). The platform does not lend directly from its balance sheet; instead, it facilitates loan origination and underwriting in partnership with registered Non-Banking Financial Companies (NBFCs), including Speel Finance Company Private Limited, an NBFC registered with the Reserve Bank of India (RBI).[4]
The platform provides short-term personal credit with repayment tenures generally ranging between 30 and 120 days. Borrowers submit identity verification and bank statements electronically, and funds are disbursed via Unified Payments Interface (UPI) or direct bank transfer. The company operates under the Digital Lending Guidelines issued by the Reserve Bank of India, which mandate direct fund transfers between the lender's bank account and the borrower without third-party pass-through accounts.[1]
