Pop cumbia (or just Cumbia pop or Cumbia cheta) is a music genre that combines Argentine cumbia with elements of Latin pop, reggaeton, caribbean music and electronic music.

It emerged in the 80s with groups such as "Cumbia Pop", which stood out with its album "Corazón Salvaje". The style is developed as an evolution of popular rhythms from that country, such as Cuarteto, Argentine rock, and cumbia, this being Lastly, the typical phenomenon of dance venues, known in Argentina as "Bailantas". Well into the 21st century, the phenomenon evolves with the contributions of rhythms derived from Argentine popular cumbia, such as "Cumbia Villera" and other rhythms such as "electro pop", with groups like Miranda. Among the Argentine bands that made the genre popular, which would later also be adopted with great success in Uruguay, we can mention Agapornis. "At present, we can find Uruguayan influential bands of this subgenre: Rombai, Marama and Mano Arriba. For this reason, as well as tango, or the particular idiomatic feature Characteristic of the region, Cumbia Pop is a distinctly "Rioplatense" phenomenon.[1] On May 13 of that same year they released the song Noche loca, featuring Márama.[2]
