Portobello Football Club is an association football club based in Notting Hill in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea. The club competes in the Middlesex County Football League Division Two, part of the thirteenth tier of the english football league system. The club was founded by Calum Opere-Hoyal, a veteran of grassroots football management.[1]
History[edit]
Portobello FC was founded in 2019 by Calum Opere-Hoyal. Opere-Hoyal hoped to create a "hyper-local" club that represented the community well. Much effort was put into marketing the team as the most fashionable club in London. Portobello FC partnered with American football kit designer Icarus Football to create what many consider to be the most unique uniforms in all of the English lower leagues. Portobello's 2022/23 Third Kit received special attention after the club partnered with FacesorFaces to create a football kit inspired by British street graffiti.[2]
Portobello, despite being founded in 2019, played it's first competitive match on September 17, 2022, losing 9–3 to Whistlers FC. Before the 2022/23 season the club had intended to play their debut campaign in 2020 in the Middlesex County Football League Division One, however the Covid-19 Pandemic pushed them off by two years and down one division.[3]

Facilities[edit]
Portobello's home ground for matches is the London Marathon Playing Fields in Greenford. The club trains at St. Augustine's Priory in Ealing.[5]
Club Identity[edit]
Portobello's crest was designed by Owen Williams.[6][7] The bright colours are meant to invoke imagery of the colourful pastel buildings on Portobello Road, the street and its iconic market for which the club was named. The Peacock similarly represents the bold and colourful identity. The crown atop the peacock's head represents the royal history of the clubs home borough, Kensington and Chelsea, home of Kensington Palace.[8][9]
The club's jerseys have also been praised by the media, the colourful and unique jerseys are reflection of the club's motto 'Never Boring!'.[2][10]
