PowerCell Sweden AB is a swedish company based in Gothenburg for development and manufacturing of Fuel Cells.

PowerCell was founded in 2008 as spin-off of Volvo. The company develops and manufactures fuel cell systems with a power output ranging from 1 kW up to several MW. These systems are utilized in the automotive sector, for maritime transport and stationary applications. PowerCell's market capitalization valued at 1.825 bn SEK by the end of 2018.[3] The stocks are listed in Nasdaq First North.[4] In November 2019, PowerCell announced German automotive supplier Bosch holding more than 11 percent of the shares.[5]

Partnerships

Together with the Norwegian companies Nel ASA and Hexagon Composites, PowerCell founded in September 2017 the joint venture Hyon with the aim of establishing fuel cell systems as maritime propulsion.[6] In 2018, PowerCell signed a contract with Siemens for development of fuel cell energy systems for ships. The first of four hydrogen-powered ferries should be put into service by Norwegian Havyard Group in 2021. PowerCell develops a fuel cell system with an electric power output of 3.2 MW per ferry.[7] In cooperation with Bosch, PowerCell develops fuel cells for duty vehicles and passenger cars.[8] Beginning in 2022, fuel cells manufactured by Bosch under PowerCell licence should be delivered for trucks of American company Nikola Motors.[9]
