Prabodh Chandra Sen (27 April 1897 - 20 September 1986) was an noted Indian Bengali scholar, rhyme expert, rabindra scholar. [1]

Early life and education

Prabodh Chandra Sen was born on April 27, 1897, in Chunta, a village in Brahmanbaria, Comilla district, which was then part of undivided Bengal and is now in Bangladesh. His parents were Hardas Sen and Swarnamoyi Sen. He received his early education at the village and local primary schools before continuing his schooling and college studies in Comilla.

In 1924, he earned a B.A. with honors in history from Murari Chand College, Sylhet. Three years later, in 1927, he secured the first position in the first class in the M.A. examination in 'Ancient Indian History and Culture' from the University of Calcutta, winning a gold medal.[1] After completing his master's degree, he conducted research on the history of ancient Bengal under the guidance of Ramakrishna Gopal Bhandarkar and later Hemchandra Raychaudhuri. His passion for history was deeply rooted in his patriotism.

During his student years, he was actively involved in the Anushilan Samiti, a revolutionary organization. In 1916, the British government arrested and imprisoned him on charges of treason. However, he was released in 1918, along with other political prisoners, following the end of World War I. [2][unreliable source?]
