Prakash Singh Dadwal (Hindi: प्रकाश सिंह डडवाल) (born 6 September 1993 in Sanyas, Tehsil Paddar, in the Kishtwar District of Jammu and Kashmir, India), is a student leader. He is currently the State Vice President of the National Students Union of India (NSUI) of Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory. [1] After completing a diploma in civil engineering from Government Polytechnic Kishtwar[2], he graduated in Sociology[3] and currently he is pursuing a master's degree in Sociology from Indira Gandhi National Open University.
Student Politics
His first exposure to student politics was in November 2012 at Government Polytechnic College in Kishtwar; his first political assignment was Coordinator of NSUI G P College and later he also served as District President of NSUI Kishtwar.[4] In October 2018, he was appointed as State Vice President of NSUI Jammu and Kashmir by then National President NSUI Fairoz Khan. [1] He was deeply involved in student politics from the earliest stage. As a student leader, he led various struggles against a number of student and youth welfare related issues.[5][6][7][8][9][10]
Dadwal plays a crucial role in exposing a Scholarship Scam in Kishtwar. Kishtwar Catalog Computer Institute was the institute that provides computer education to the students. The Ministry of Minority Affairs (MOMA) had provided a scholarship of Rs 15,700 each in favor of the trainees, after which the head of the institution had directed the trainees to open an account in Punjab National Bank and submit the ATM card to him. Trainees alleged that the head of Institution had himself withdrawn the sanctioned amount from their accounts through ATM without their knowledge and they got the information about the withdrawal of money from their accounts through SMS alerts on their phones. When the trainees inquired from the institute owner about withdrawal of amount from their bank accounts, he refused to return the withdrawn amount which was nearly 1.2 million. Almost 75 students to whom the fraud was committed by the computer institute, brought the whole matter under the notice of Prakash Singh Dadwal, who at that time was the District President of NSUI in Kishtwar District of Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory. NSUI team registered a complaint in the concerned police station, but when no response came from the administration, NSUI members assembled at the Deputy commissioner's office and protested for as long as a week, and ultimately the Deputy commissioner Kishtwar directed SSP Kishtwar to start investigation. After thorough investigation the scam was exposed and consequently one of the heads of the institution was booked and the Institute was seized. This popularly scam was given a name as the Kishtwar Scholarship Scam by some media houses.[11][12][13]
