Prasanna Earnest is a Communist Party of India (Marxist) politician from Kollam city. She was the fourth mayor of Kollam City Corporation.[2][3][4][5] She is the current councilor of Thamarakulam ward in Kollam Municipal Corporation.[6]

Prasanna Earnest was awarded by the Rotary Club of Trivandrum Royal for becoming the Best Lady Mayor of South India in April 2014.[7]

Early life & background[edit]

Prasanna Earnest is a native and social worker from Mundakkal East in Kollam city. She entered active politics through Students' Federation of India - The Left students' organization in India. She had worked with All India Democratic Women's Association and became Chavara unit president in 1991. Her entry to the City corporation council was in 2000, from Pattathanam division and again elected from the Mundakkal division in 2005. She had served as tax and appeals and health and education standing committee chairperson during her both tenures.[8]
