Premise is a data and analytics technology company providing real-time, in-the-field insights from around the world to clients in verticals ranging from retail to technology.[1]

Premise’s proprietary market intelligence platform blends advanced machine learning with a global network of on-the-ground contributors from over 120 countries across 35 languages to bring real-time data and insights to leaders in every industry and enterprise size. Investors include Valor Equity, WestCap Group, Andreessen Horowitz, Google Ventures, Social Capital, 8VC, NightDragon, Atreides Management and Hanover Technology Partners among others.[2] Premise announced it had raised an $85 million Series E funding round in January 2021 with an eye on expanding its platform capabilities, furthering global expansion and ramping up its hiring efforts.[3]

The company is headquartered in San Francisco, with offices in Washington, D.C., Seattle and London.[4]

Premise was co-founded in 2012 by Joe Reisinger and David Soloff.[5] Soloff remains on the board and other members include Maury Blackman, the Premise CEO, Antonio Gracias, the Founder, CEO and CIO of Valor Equity Partners, Vivek K. Pattipati, Partner at Valor, Dave DeWalt, Managing Director at NightDragon, Laurence Tosi, Managing Partner at WestCap Group, and Alex Moore, Partner at 8VC.

The company is advised by former US Treasury Secretary Larry Summers and Raj Shah, President of the Rockefeller Foundation and former Administrator of the United States Agency for International Development.  

In 2015, Premise raised a $50 million Series C funding round led by Social + Capital Partnership and Valor Equity Partners.[6]

In February 2018, Premise named Maury Blackman as its President & CEO.[7] Blackman, the 2016 Ernst & Young Northern California Entrepreneur of the Year, previously served as CEO of the government technology company Accela.[8][9] In 2015, Blackman was recognized by Government Technology magazine as one of its "Top 25 Doers, Dreamers, and Drivers.”[10]

In January 2021, Premise announced it had raised $85 million in a Series E financing round to expand its platform capabilities, global network and workforce.[11] The latest round was led by WestCap Group with participation from existing investors 8VC, Hanover Partners, Tao Capital Partners, Valor Equity Partners, Communitas Capital and Atreides Management who each also participated in Premise’s Series D round.[3]

New investors Winslow Capital, DRW, the Vista Credit Fund and NightDragon Security joined the Series E funding round. The company added Laurence Tosi, Dave DeWalt and Alex Moore to Premise’s board.[3]

Reception[edit]

Premise Data was recognized as one of Deloitte’s Technology Fast 500 for 2020.[12] Forbes named Premise as one of the best startup employers in 2021.[13]
