Prodigal Filio (born Filipe Barreto Peixoto Teles, in Rio de Janeiro, Brasil, on the 15th of March, 1989), is an electronic music producer and presenter, Record Label founder, social media personality, known for creating songs that transcend the standard dance music songs. His songs are both energetic, with heavy beats and trippy melodies that make the crowd dance and move but also include citations, movie quotes, documentaries audios, and other influences, making the listener have both the feeling of a physical/body experience, but also the psychology of a philosophical/mental experience.
Besides producing and playing music, Prodigal Filio founded in 2018 in Sydney, Australia, a Record Label, Prodigality Records, where he publishes his own works as well as songs he endorses.
Prodigal Filio has an upcoming monthly video-recorded DJ set named A Mercurial Journey, the release of more singles and EPs through his Prodigality Records and bookings to play at various parties around the world.
Biography[edit]
Since a very young age, Prodigal Filio has shown a deep interest in music since a young age, ranging from old-school rap, passing through classical music, Frank Sinatra, new-metal rock, and hard-rock music from the sixties-seventies, folk singers like Woody Guthrie and Bob Dylan, Samba, Reggae, old-school and modern day electronic musicians, Trap artists, and many other musicians, whatever felt right, for him whenever he was listening to the songs, not following any rules, regardless if it was mainstream, underground or not.
He was until his middle twenties, mostly a fan of music, listening to music almost at all the time, without actually creating any music himself. He dabbled in playing guitar, trying to mimic guitar solos from Jimi Hendrix and Led Zeppelin when he was a teenager and made some Hip-Hop songs when he was in his late teens. But, before making music as a serious endeavour, Prodigal Filio, spent many years as a fan of music, drowning in music, not limiting himself to any type of genre, exploring different types of music, and going to many different types of musical events, such as, festivals, raves, night clubs, house parties, live bands, beach clubs, all over the world. Besides live music, he also has always been a keen researcher of music on the internet, for both modern music and old school music, always following his intuition about what to hear, instead of any traditional musical education, rule or trend.
In 2013, he migrated to Sydney, Australia, to study Information Technology at UTS, although deep down his passion has always been for music and it was in electronic music where he found the outlet to express everything that he absorbed throughout those many years, not just in music, but from all of his experimentations, exploration, travel, and thoughts about his views about existence, justice, humanity and the world.
Career[edit]
Always a passionate and obsessed fan of music, Prodigal Filio started his first duellings in producing around the year of 2012-2013, creating his first, short, very amateurish songs. His production process is intuitive rather than technical, thanks to his exposure to so many different types of genres across his life, and no formal musical education. Prodigal Filio has stated in the past, that when he is producing, he does not think carefully about his decisions, but rather follows his mind, intuition, and feelings to create the songs.
At the end of 2016, Prodigal Filio started posting his first songs on SoundCloud, which attracted a small number of listeners. Since them, his productions skills have improved and he has been gathering a bigger following world-wide, both in his music networks as well as his social media channels, recently reaching 10 thousand followers on Instagram.
In 2018 he founded Prodigality Records, an outlet to publish his own songs, which he also has said he plans to publish songs from artists he admires.
His songs have been published in major online stores and streaming services such as Spotify, Shazam, Records, Google Play Music, iTunes Store, SoundCloud, Tidal,Deezer, Youtube, Apple Music, Napster, Amazon Music, Pandora and, Beatport.
Prodigal Filio has an upcoming live set naming coming up, named A Mercurial Journey, the naming clearly influenced by Bob Dylan's famous reply when asked in an interview about how he described his music, as "That Thin Wild Mercury Sound" [1]. The project is planned to debut at the second semester of 2018. Prodigal Filio also has a string of EPs and singles been produced.
