The Progressive Liberty Party Australia (PLPA), also known as the Progressive Liberty Party is a minor centre-left political movement in Melbourne, Australia. The party is a predominately youth operated organisation that promotes political and environmental awareness.
The PLPA was founded in 2018 by three school students in the Eastern Suburbs of Melbourne in response to the local communities growing concerns about the environment and inequality. The party has been notably welcoming of people and ideas as its primary philosophy revolves around social and environmental awareness as well as social justice and progressiveness. The party's constitution states “The Party shall aim to represent the values of the next generation of young Australians by promoting and advocating for a climate of tolerance, equality, compassion and understanding.” This Article has long been used to define the party as an alternative to the norm, using the ideals of emotional understanding to improve political understanding.
History[edit]
On 10 September 2018 the Progressive Liberty Party Australia was founded by Baylin Lipkevicius, James Sun and Dylan Marlow. The Party Cabinet was appointed on 11 September 2018 and commenced operations on September 12. From February 2019 until December 2019 the Party built up a social media audience and began spreading influence at home and abroad. In January 2020 the Party was relaunched with a new logo and slogan. On 3 February 2020 the Chairmanship Elections were held, the election was called due to a challenge made by the Party Secretary Dylan Marlow. However, after a public vote, the incumbent leader and co-founder Baylin Lipkevicius won a landslide victory.
Politics[edit]
The PLPA is a centre-left political movement with emphasis on environmental and political progressiveness, social democracy and social liberalism. The party has been a strong advocate for greater personal liberty and freedom, as well as aspects of social justice.
The parties Chairman Baylin Lipkevicius has been an outspoken opposition to the current Morrison Government saying in a speech at meeting of the Party Cabinet; “We have an underperforming Government who’s primary objective is to benefit themselves, they want success for their party not for their country and that in itself is a recipe for destruction.”
The PLPA is very active during peaceful protests, marches and demonstrations and often attends environmental awareness campaigns in Melbourne.
