Prontus is a free and open-source CMS software, licensed under the terms of the GNU Lesser General Public License[2]. Prontus is written in Perl and runs on Unix systems, such as Ubuntu, CentOS or Debian. Prontus was released in 1997 by the company AltaVoz in Viña del Mar, Chile, to manage content for different media companies in that country. The software is currently mantained by the same company[3].

    Features[edit]

Prontus allows the creation of webpages, including the ability to write content, manage files, have multiple users working simultaneously with different roles, manage categories and tags and also page templates[4]. Prontus supports static page generation, where each page is updated whenever the content of the site is changed. Prontus is written in Perl, uses MySQL and MariaDB as databases and XML files[5]

    History[edit]

Version 1.0 was released in September 1997, and new versions have been continuously released since then. Prontus started as a CMS for media companies in Chile, with a focus on site performance. It was first used at Edición Impresa - Medios Regionales - soychile.cl and has since been used on multiple local media companies at different times, including Radio Cooperativa, Diario Financiero, Chilevisión, 13 Radios, among others.

Prontus is also used by other companies, NGOs and government offices to manage the content of their websites, blogs, private intranets and other information sites.
