Punk Rock Factory, commonly abbreviated as PRF,  is a pop-punk band based in South Wales. Formed in 2014 by lifelong friends Peej Edwards (vocals, guitar), Benj Allison (bass vocals), Ryan Steadman (guitar) and Andrew “Kob” Robinson (drums/vocals). The group largely performs covers of childhood-favorite tunes including Disney songs, TV theme songs and early 2000s punk anthems.

They write, record, mix, master and film out of their home production studio, affectionately called “The Sausage Factory”.[1] To date, the band has self-released 4 albums and embarked on one full UK tour, quickly selling out multiple dates.

Career[edit]

2014 - 2019[edit]

Punk Rock Factory was formed in late 2014 by Peej Edwards (vocals, guitar), Benj Allison (bass, vocals), Ryan Steadman (guitar) and Andrew “Kob” Robinson (drums, vocals).[2] The band members knew each other from playing in various bands around their local punk rock scene. They all had experience playing covers in other bands and initially were just having fun in the studio playing cover songs and posting them online.

After seeing the response to their covers on YouTube, PRF decided to commit full-time and started curating their unique sound. They continued posting videos online and building a loyal fanbase, whom they call “The Sausage Army”.

2019 - 2021[edit]

The Wurst is Yet to Come[edit]

In 2019, after years of single viral hits, the band self-released their debut album The Wurst is Yet to Come featuring 11 tracks. The album includes covers of popular songs, ranging from boy band hits like MMMBop (Hanson) to certified classics like “Go Your Own Way” by Fleetwood Mac. The title of the album is a pun combining the name of German Bratwurst and literal English meaning of ‘worst’. The album received over 1.3 million streams on Spotify and was a hit on TikTok and other social platforms.[3]

A Whole New Wurst[edit]

In 2020, shortly after the success of their first album, and under UK lockdown procedure during the Coronavirus pandemic, the band started work on a follow-up album, titled A Whole New Wurst. It consists entirely of Disney songs with PRF's punk rock twist. The album includes 13 tracks from beloved Disney movies like Aladdin, Frozen and Mary Poppins, while also featuring guests such as Jaret Reddick of Bowling for Soup, Rody Walker of Protest the Hero, Spencer Charnas of Ice Nine Kills, Tony Lovato of Mest and more. The album gained over 2.4 million streams on Spotify in just 2 months.[4] It became a quick success, reaching #48 in the UK album download charts and getting airtime on BBC Radio 6 Music with Craig Charles.[5][6] One song, "How Far I’ll Go", was the most requested song of the week by listeners of the show.[7]

Masters of the Uniwerst[edit]

In July 2021, the band released a third LP titled Masters of the Uniwurst, another themed album focused on covering TV theme songs. The band received numerous accolades for staying true to the original theme music, commenting “We wanted to do them as you remember them. This means we didn't extend them, or change them, unless it really worked in the song’s favor.”[8]

Bloodstock Festival[edit]

In August 2021, the band was a last minute addition to the lineup at Bloodstock Festival in the UK. Their performance on the Sophie Lancaster stage received rave reviews, with Liz Medhurst from MetalTalk remarking "the sheer force of personality and the somewhat eclectic mix was a complete winner."[9]

Scene This?[edit]

In November 2021, the band released their fourth LP “Scene This?”. The album focused on big rock hits from the 2000’s. Including songs by bands such as Papa Roach, Fall Out Boy, Lit and many more.

Following the album’s release, the group embarked on a successful UK tour with many of the dates selling out months in advance.[10]

2022[edit]

In January 2022, the band uploaded a short version of "We Don’t Talk About Bruno" from the Disney movie Encanto.[11] After gaining millions of views in 48 hours, it prompted fans to call for a duet of another song from the movie "Surface Pressure" with Jessica Darrow, who portrays Luisa in the film.[12] The band’s collaboration with the actress was uploaded a few days later and went viral, gaining millions of views across TikTok, Instagram and YouTube, as well as being played on Scott Mills official chart show on BBC Radio 1 that week.

In March 2022, the band premiered a brand new video game medley music video titled "Round One Fight" at the SXSW Gaming Awards ceremony.[13]

In June 2022 they will perform at Slam Dunk Festival in the UK, alongside other headliners Sum 41 and Alexisonfire.[14][15]
