'Puppy Love' is an independent film written and directed by Michael Maxxis. It is the true story of a naive, simple-minded man who is looking for companionship, and finds it in a drug-addicted prostitute, whom he believes he can save. The film stars Hopper Jack Penn, Paz de la Huerta, UFC star Donald "Cowboy" Cerrone, musician Mickey Avalon, Michael Madsen, Rosanna Arquette, and "Mr. Las Vegas" Wayne Newton. It is the directorial debut of Maxxis. The original score was composed by grammy winning American rock band Portugal. the Man, while the original soundtrack was produced by Butch Vig, and executive produced by Chris Taylor. The story is based on the true story of Morgan Williams, the film-maker's cousin.
Plot synopsis[edit]
Dim-witted, but good-natured Morgan (Hopper Jack Penn) finds himself constantly taken advantage of by everyone in his life, including his family. In an effort to find friendship, and maybe love, he befriends a drug-addicted prostitute named Carla, played by Paz de la Huerta.
They eventually wind up homeless in his vehicle, where she continues to do drugs, though, "smaller doses, more times a day" due to Morgan's attempts to sober her up.
Throughout the film, Carla serves as motivation for Morgan to get a steady job and grow into manhood. Carla, continues her destructive pattern, but leaves Morgan with a renewed sense of confidence and self-determination.
