Half go to paid subscriptions, including those included in the Opimian Society’s membership benefits. 20 percent are available in Air Canada lounges, 10 percent provided to experts in the industry. 800 copies of each issue are available for purchase on newsstands[1][5][6]. Their wine and drink reviews cover international producers and topics. Archived copies of their past issues are available on the Issuu platform[4].

Background[edit]

Founded March 1972, Quench Magazine started as Wine Tidings, a magazine published and distributed to members of the Opimian Society[10]. The magazine grew and evolved into Tidings Magazine before separating from Opimian to become an independently published periodical. In 2014, Tidings rebranded to Quench Magazine[7][2].

Quench Magazine launched their first website, tidings.com, in 1995. The website name evolved with the magazine; from tidings.com, it became quenchbytidings.com in early 2013 before landing on the current site name: quench.me in summer of 2013. With the launch of their website, Quench Digital was created. The initiatives expanded to include Facebook and Twitter in March 2011, YouTube in 2014 and Instagram in 2013. Through Quench Digital, Quench publishes short videos that complement their mission to “focus on food and drink as well as the small things that make life great and the people who create them”.

Quench Maverick Awards[edit]

Quench’s Maverick Chef and Mav Wine & Spirits awards are two forms of recognition given annually to Canadian chefs and wine/spirit producers. The Mav Chefs are announced in the October issue each year; and the Mav Wine & Spirits are announced in the November issue[8][11]

The Mav Chef awards were launched in 2009 and feature Canadian chefs across the country[11].
