Over the last two decades, the “Rīgas Ritmi” festival has become an essential part of Latvian and Baltic cultural life. More than 600 musicians from all over the world have performed in 1000 concerts, which have been enjoyed by more than 200 thousand spectators during these years. Thanks to the festival, many outstanding artists have visited Riga, among them Bobby McFerrin, Diane Reeves, “Take 6”, Richard Bona, “BBC Big Band”, Avishai Cohen, Patti Austin, Scott Hamilton, Freddy Cole, “Yellowjackets”, Victor Wooten, Buika, Astillero, Jojo Mayer, Medeski Martin & Wood, Robert Glasper, Diane Schuur, as well as the greatest Latvian musicians, including young talents.
In spring of 2011 the “Rīgas Ritmi” festival was presented during its tour in the US. Rigas Ritmi All Stars – Maris Briezkalns Quintet was giving a series of concerts and interviews around the USA – Washington, Philadelphia and New York. The tour culminated in the ensemble's debut[1] at the world famous Blue Note jazz club in the New York City – this was the first time when the Latvian artists headlined at the Blue Note[2]. This program was made possible in cooperation and with the help of sponsorship of the New York University (NYU) and The New York Foundation for the Arts (NYFA).
