R. Rajarathinam is a former Indian kabaddi player and coach. He captained both the Tamil Nadu Kabaddi Team and the Indian Railways Kabaddi Team, and served as vice-captain of the Indian national team during the 1990 Asian Games, where India won the gold medal. He also played a key role in India’s gold medal victory at the 1994 South Asian Games in Hiroshima. [1]
Early life
Rajarathinam was born in Ganapathipuram, Kanyakumari district, Tamil Nadu in 1960. He is the son of S. Subbiah Nadar. His interest in kabaddi began during school and college competitions, eventually leading to district and state-level representation.
Career
Domestic career
Rajarathinam was active in professional kabaddi from 1980 to 1994. He captained the Tamil Nadu team from 1988 to 1993 and the Indian Railways team from 1992 to 1994. He participated in major national tournaments including:
- All India Inter-Railways Kabaddi Tournament
- All India Civil Services Kabaddi Tournament
- All India Federation Cup
- National Kabaddi Championship

International career
Rajarathinam represented India in several international kabaddi tournaments:
