R. Venkatachalam (also known as Colony Venkatachalam) is an Indian politician and former Mayor of Coimbatore Municipal Corporation. He belongs to the Indian National Congress Party.
He was the former Mayor of Coimbatore from 2006 to 2011.
R. Venkatachalam succeeded Mr. Malaravan, who resigned from the mayorship to contest for the Assembly elections in 2006 and won the election.
Of all the Mayors from Coimbatore, only Mr. Venkatachalam [1] was indirectly elected – elected by the councillors and not directly by the people.
