REYNA is an American indie pop sister duo from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, comprised of siblings Victoriah & Hannah Gabriela Banuelos, formerly of Vic and Gab.[1][2]

History

Early beginnings - 2017

On January 22, 2016, REYNA emerged with their debut single "Spill Your Colors"[3] where it was announced their previous project Vic and Gab was one of the most popular bands in Milwaukee and included sets at SXSW music festival and opening for former President Obama.[4]. It was after MTV had used their track on an episode of Skins (U.S. TV series) that they decided to pursue music full-time.[5]. They went on to work with Drew Pearson (songwriter), who is known for his work with Kesha, as well as Dan Gibson & Simon Oscroft who produced The Aces (indie pop band)'s album to help refine their sound. They released a series of singles throughout 2016 and 2017.

Early 2018 - Present

In February, the sisters released their first track of the year, "Cool With It"[6][7] and in late May, REYNA announced the release of their second single, "Baby Forget It"[8] which was featured on Billboard Pride's "12 Musicians to Discover During LGBTQ Pride Month" where founder Patrick Crowley stated "This duo wouldn’t sound out of place on a playlist with Tegan and Sara, Carly Rae Jepsen and CHVRCHES.[9] On July 4th, they performed at Summerfest in their hometown of Milwaukee, Wisconsin opening for Kesha[10][11] which was also featured by AfterEllen.[12]

They were declared by UK music retailer HMV as a 'Next Big Thing', adding "Imagine Robyn and CHVRCHES forming a supergroup with classic Duran Duran and getting Kavinsky in to produce, that's REYNA's sound."[13] and shortly after released their 3rd single of the year, "Heartbeat," which premiered a day early on Nylon (magazine)[14]

In early November 2018, it was announced REYNA were crowned winners of the Project: Aloft Star USA competition with Marriott's Aloft Hotels and Universal Music, where they were mentored by and performed for X Ambassadors and won an upcoming single song deal with Universal Music and recording time at Capitol Records.[15]. They were interviewed by Pitchfork prior to this.[16]. In an interview with Gay Times, along with sharing her coming out story, Vic revealed they will be releasing a two part EP which also includes the three songs released in 2018.
