Rafael McGuire (May 10, 1994, Cuernavaca, Morelos, Mexico) is a model, actor and singer.[1]

Artistic career[edit]

Rafael McGuire was born in Cuernavaca, Morelos. At a young age he had the opportunity to start his acting training with Rodolfo Palacios, a renowned actor and film director best known for his role in Apocalypto by Mel Gibson.[2] In Mexico, he studied acting at Casazul. Rafael McGuire has collaborated as a production assistant at Televisa Morelos. Rafael moved to Hollywood, California, where he studied cinematography and film production at the Los Angeles Film School. During this time, he made appearances in independent films that were featured on film festivals across the country, including the Sundance Film Festival and the Palm Springs International Film Festival.[3]

In these beginnings, he explored music by recording cover versions of songs and eventually composing and recording original music of his own under the stage name of Rafalo. The artist has expressed that time had an official video and were "Wide Awake" and his electronic music version of Gotye's "Somebody That I Used to Know", two covers recorded at Azul Music Studio in Cuernavaca.[4]

In 2013, he was part of the cast in the short film Alternative, in which he played the character Víctor.[5]

Continuing with his musical career, in 2018 Rafael composes and records his first original single in English "Not Nobody" by Esjay Jones who has produced songs for artists such as Sean Kingston, Krewella, Pia Toscano, among many others. This release also represents the beginning of his work as a mental health activist. The artist has expressed that he use this single as a tribute to commemorate the memory of Avicii who, according to Rafael, represents his greatest inspiration in music.[6]

In 2021, he released his previously unreleased single "Touching you" with a music video.[7] McGuire expressed that he uses art to motivate people to face depression and anxiety, disorders that he also suffered in times of pandemic.[8][9] That same year, he was at number No. 1 for several weeks on the Efervescente FM radio chart in Mexico for the cover of his song "Burning Love".[10]

In 2022 he modeled on the runway at New York Fashion Week.[11] That same year, the song "Euphoria" came with an official video recorded in Tepoztlán.
