Rajeev Karthikeyan is an Indian entrepreneur and the founder of Leap Green Energy and Leap India Food and Logistics, both headquartered in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. He has overseen installation of more than 750 MW of wind capacity and 523 MW of solar and hydrogen projects, and holds a Bachelor of Engineering in Textile Engineering from the University of Leeds and an MBA from INSEAD.[1]

Early life and education

Karthikeyan is a fourth-generation entrepreneur; his family operated a textile business in Coimbatore.[2] He earned a Bachelor of Engineering in Textile Engineering from the University of Leeds and an MBA from INSEAD.[1]

Career

After working briefly in textiles, Karthikeyan founded Leap Green Energy in 2006 to develop wind power projects across India, citing a desire for independence from the family business, PSG Group.[2] By 2019, the company had commissioned over 750 MW of capacity in Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, and Rajasthan.[3]

In 2021, Leap Green Energy added solar photovoltaic installations and a hydrogen energy pilot project, bringing its non-wind capacity to 523 MW.[4]

In July 2023, Brookfield Asset Management completed a US $550 million acquisition of Leap Green Energy.[5]

In 2018, he founded Leap India Food and Logistics to provide cold-storage and warehousing infrastructure for agricultural produce; the company received investment from the Neev Fund, a Department for International DevelopmentState Bank of India initiative.[6]

Recognition

In 2021, he was included on Forbes India’s “Leaders of Change” list.[7]

Personal life

Karthikeyan has over 18 years of entrepreneurial experience in manufacturing, information technology, and power, and resides in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu.[1]
