Prakash alias Raju Desale (Marathi: राजू देसले)[1] is an Indian Politician from Nashik, Maharashtra. He is a leader of Communist Party of India, State Secretary[2] of All India Trade Union Congress and a state working president of All India Kisan Sabha (Ajoy Bhavan)[3]
He played a vital role in mobilising farmers against the Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis's Dream Project Nagpur–Aurangabad–Mumbai express highway popularly known as Samruddhi Mahamarg. The agitation had gathered good support among farmers[4]. He was an integral part of Maharashtra farmer's stirring committee widely known as Sukanu Samiti [5] [6].
He was among the leaders who extensively supported the historic long march of farmers from Nashik to Mumbai for complete loan waiver, implementation of Swaminathan Committee Report i.e National Commission on Farmers and minimum support price to farm produce[7]
Early Political Life
In 1991, Desale started his political activism and joined the All India Students Federation[8]. He was 16 when he joined the AISF, a left wing students organization which is considered to be close to left parties especially the Communist Party of India (CPI). Later he joined CPI and became an active member of it.
Graduate Constituency Election 2017
Desale had unsuccessfully contested Nashik Division Graduate Constituency Election in 2017 [9]as a left front candidate against then incumbent candidate of Indian National Congress Dr. Sudhir Tambe, it was largely considered a triangular fight between Dr. Tambe, Bhartiya Janata Party's Dr. Prashant Patil and left front's candidate Raju Desale[10][11].[12]
