Kronenwetter did go on to become Mayor of Mosinee.[2] During his time as Mayor, he and the city took party in a mock invasion of Communists staged by the American Legion. The city spent a day under control of the "Communists" illustrating what life would be like under Communist control. As Kronenwetter arrived at a rally that night which was meant to return the city back to normal, he suffered a cerebral hemorrhage. Kronenwetter never regained consciousness and died five days later.
