Ramakrishnan Swamiji
Shri Ramakrishnan Swamiji (Sanskrit: "द्राविडाचार्य" श्री रामकृष्णन् स्वामीजि, romanized: "Dravidācārya" Śrī Rāmakṛṣṇan Svāmīji), also known by his title Dravidācārya, is a contemporary Indian Vedic scholar, indian philosopher, and teacher (acārya) of Advaita Vedanta, Sanskrit and other Indian Philosophies. He is the founder of Shastra Nethralaya an institution dedicated to the study and dissemination of traditional Indian knowledge, located in Teerthamalai, Tamil Nadu, India
Life
Born on 12 June 1972 in Dindigul, Tamil Nadu, Swamiji hails from a Brahmin family. He completed his education in Chennai. At the age of 25, driven by a profound desire for self-knowledge, he renounced worldly pursuits and embarked on a spiritual journey to the Himalayas.
In Rishikesh, Swamiji commenced his rigorous traditional scriptural studies under the guidance of Yogiswara Sri Shanti Dharmananda Saraswati Ji. He acquired a deep understanding of Sanskrit grammar, various Indian philosophical schools (Sankhya, Yoga, Nyaya, Vaisheshika, Purva Mimamsa, Kashmiri Shaivism), and the core Vedanta texts (Brihat Prastana Traya: Chitsukhi, Advaitasiddhi, and KhandanaKhandaKhadya). He further deepened his understanding of the Prastana Traya (Bhagavad Gita, Upanishads, and Brahma Sutras with Shankara Bhashya) under the tutelage of Virakta Shiromani Sri Sarveshananda Saraswati Ji, a disciple of his previous Guru.
Teachings and legacy
Despite a personal inclination towards solitary study and contemplation, Swamiji, following his Guru's guidance, began teaching Shastras in Rishikesh. His teachings are characterized by simplicity, adherence to traditional methods, and a rigorous approach, presented in English, Tamil, and Hindi. He has authored commentaries on the works of Adi Shankara and other scholars. These include Upadesha Sara, Sadhana Panchakam, Advaita Rasa Manjari,[1] Vivekacūḍāmaṇi , Vedanta Paribhasha,[2] Vicāra Sāgara, Bhagavad Gita,[3]Upanishads, Brahmasutra,[4] Advaitasiddhi and Khaṇḍana Khaṇḍa Khādya.[5] He has also authored books in Tamil and Sanskrit on various philosophical systems (Darshanas) and a Hindi work titled Upadeśasāhasrī[6] with Ramatirtha Tika.
Swamiji[7] adheres to the traditional Shastric system and methodology for Vedanta learning, emphasizing the Guru-Shishya (teacher-disciple) mode of education. His work has been translated into languages like Sanksrit, Hindi, Tamil, English, Spanish, and Romanian.
